“A tent house in the Bihari sense: we bring the shamiana, the poles, the carpet, four hundred chairs, the tables, the stage, the mandap and the lights, and it goes up in one day with one crew and one invoice. We are not a florist. If you want a wall of imported orchids that is Phoolwari down the road and we will say so. What we are good at is the frame — a 12×12 mandap that will not lean, a stage that takes forty people on it for the jaimala, and an entrance gate that a horse can walk under. One setup a day. A crew that struck a mandap at 2 a.m. does not build a good one at 9. If you need the haldi at one house in the morning and the mehendi at another in the evening, that is two setups and a second-location fee of ₹18,000 — stated here, not discovered on the invoice. Quantities are on every package: running feet of garland, kilos of fresh flower, panels of drape, count of lights. A photograph is not a quantity.”
